Installing a LEDGlow Interior Lighting Kit could become a frustrating process if you don’t plan out how you want to install your new kit. A few things you should keep in mind prior to the installation are where you want to mount the interior tubes, where you want to mount the control box and how you want to power the kit. If you do these three things, the installation will go smooth and leave you with a picture perfect finished product.
Mock Out Tube Locations:
Whether you have a multi-color or single color LEDGlow 4pc LED Interior Lighting Kit or even an Expandable SMD Interior Lighting Kit, you need to plan out where you want to mount the tubes. A few locations where you can mount the tubes are under the driver/passenger dashboard, under the front of the driver/passenger seats facing the foot wells, under the driver/passenger seats facing the back seats and even in the trunk! The 4pc Interior Lighting Kits’ tubes are attached to the control box with 6ft of wire between the control box and the tube, whereas the Expandable SMD Interior’s Tubes daisy chain to the next tube in the sequence and includes two pair of 9.5ft and 5ft wires in a standard 4pc kit. It is extremely important to ensure you have enough wire to mount the tube to your desired location. If not, you might have to find another spot. The variety of different tube lengths LEDGlow offers could also play a big role on where you want to mount the interior tubes. LEDGlow’s Million Color Pro and Single Color SMD Interior Lighting Kits feature 12 inch flexible tubes, 4pc Interior Lighting Kits feature 9 inch tubes that cannot be bent and Million Color Mini Interior Kits feature 4 inch flexible tubes.
Control Box Location:
The mounting location of the control box is another important aspect of installing interior lights to your vehicle. As you know, the 4pc Interior Kit’s control box is attached to the wires of the tubes so you will want to mount the control box at an accessible location, while leaving some wire slack for mounting each tube. A good spot for the control box is by the center console so you can easily reach it, but if you want to utilize the auto illumination function, you can hide the control box in the glove compartment since the lights will function when you either, open the driver door, turn on the ignition or turn on the headlights. Check out our installation video dedicated to the auto illumination function by clicking this link. The Expandable SMD Interior Kit’s control box features 4 buttons as well as a wireless remote to select the kit’s functions, giving you more room to play with when it comes time to mount the control box. The best location to mount the Expandable SMD Interior Control Box is as close to a tube under the dash as it will ultimately be the first tube of the daisy chain sequence.
You can power your new interior kit one of three ways: directly from the vehicle’s battery using the red power and black ground wires, using an Expandable Circuit or a Cigarette Lighter Adapter. When installing your kit to power directly from the vehicle’s battery, you will need to extend the power and ground wires using 16 or 18 gauge automotive grade wiring. One thing to also keep in mind when installing your kit this way is that there will be power going to the kit at all times. If by chance you power your vehicle down and forget to turn the interior kit off, the kit will stay on and could potentially drain your battery.
Powering your interior kit from your vehicle’s fuse panel using LEDGlow’s Expandable Circuit is the easiest way to power your kit. You will simply select a fuse that does not exceed 15amp, remove the fuse from the panel and insert it into the empty slot next to the 4amp fuse on the expandable circuit. Then you’ll insert the expandable circuit with both fuses attached into the empty slot on the fuse panel where you removed the stock fuse. LEDGlow offers three styles of Expandable Circuits for all fuse types which include ATO (ATC), Mini and Low Profile Mini.
If you want to quickly install your interior kit and easily remove power whenever you want, using the cigarette lighter adapter could be your best bet. You just have to crimp the power and ground wires to the quick crimp connectors, insert them into the butt connectors, plug in the adapter and power your kit! It’s that easy!
